Solve Your “Energy Equation”

High performance is not about hacks, tricks, or getting the most out of every second… The solution resides in aligning your “inner” energy and wellbeing with your “outer” energy so you can be inspired, productive, and fulfilled… without burning out.

Own It

And you can’t optimize your energy without tracking it, so bring in the devices.

Fitbits, Oura Rings, Whoop bands — all great tools used to measure performance. But what they really do is give you information.

As Simon Sinek famously said, “if more information were the answer, we’d all be billionaires with six-pack abs.”

We couldn’t agree more because, well, how many billionaires do you know? (And, come to think of it, how many of them have abs?)

Now, look: information is obviously important for improvement of any kind, especially at the higher levels of physical or mental optimization. But more data doesn’t guarantee better results. No one’s ever made progress from just looking at a chart.

You actually have to do something with that data. You have to make changes.

But how do you even know what changes to make when every high performance “guru” and company is shoving their solution down your throat?

“This coffee will not only give you energy, but zone in focus for peak performance.”

What the “experts” are saying

“If you’re not waking up and doing morning pages then you’re not a high performer.”

“Nope, it’s slowing the mind down and meditating. Keeping your focus inward. THAT is the answer.”

If the experts are to be believed, you’ve gotta wake up before dawn, do three types of journaling, set your intentions, drink a magic potion, and get in a training session all before work. Then you’ve pause for mid-day meditation, stand outside in the sunlight with your feet on the grass to connect with the earth, and spend at least 20 minutes trotting back and forth between an ice bath and a red light sauna.

That seems like a pretty full day, and somewhere in between all the hacks you’re using to enhance performance, you have to actually, you know, perform—at your job, with your family, in your life.

Here’s the thing, though…none of these things are bad. Some of them may be the answer. But they’re probably not ALL the answer. Some work well for some people, not so well for others.

In every other area of performance, from dieting to exercise, we acknowledge that every human body is a different machine with different needs. But when it comes to recovery or mental performance, we’re told everyone has to do everything.

That scattershot approach isn’t just unnecessary, it’s ineffective. You don’t need a 3-hour biohacking marathon; you need a few practices that work well for you.

But which ones? How do you know until you actually know? That is the information we want. And finding it takes time. Time you don’t have—because didn’t you start this entire process to save time?

We’re being sold the idea that “high performance” can be mass-produced and recreated, over and over again.

The very idea of performance has been commoditized.

To sell it to you, companies position their solution as if it’s THE ONLY solution to all of your problems.

Epigenetic testing companies are now selling “custom supplement subscriptions” that are designed to heal you and make you feel better

Fitness trackers are now meal plan providers

You can even buy beds now that “put you to sleep, keep you asleep, and wake you up at the end of your last sleep cycle.

All of our combined experience in our fields and years chasing high performance as individuals came down to a simple answer: That’s not how our bodies work.

We might all be humans, but we’re individuals. With individual needs.

Which means high-performance isn’t achieved through universality, it’s achieved with individuality.

Sure, daily ice baths and breathwork can supercharge recovery for one person, but might completely drain the battery for another.

Being able to identify what works (and what doesn’t) with the information and feedback we’re getting from our productivity tools and tracking devices is integral. Again, all of these tools have their place, and understanding when and why is key for you.

That’s what the Own It team does.

The systems we customize for you around the goals you’re obsessed with while utilizing the tools that you already have, directing you to the data that’s important to you, and helping you make decisions based on your needs and your lifestyle.

JUSTIN

At the age of 14, Justin Roethlingshoefer was already obsessed with peak performance. That obsession led him to a career first as a professional athlete and then as a strength & performance coach working with the NHL for nearly a decade.

As the productivity hack industry continued to grow, Justin noticed that the very thing he had been hired to do for NHL players was being integrated into entrepreneurial life. The only problem was people weren’t actually getting anything out of it.

The more entrepreneurs and business leaders that came to him for advice on what he was doing to stay on top, the more he knew that there was a place for something like OwnIt to help maximize the output of these leaders.

But outer energy is only half the equation. When it comes to entrepreneurs and executives, physical capability is nothing without the mental and emotional acumen that allows you to make better, smarter decisions from a place of certainty.

At OwnIt, we also focus on what we call “inner energy,” as guided by Justin’s co-founder and fiancé, Alyse Gaulin. At a young age, Alyse made the connection most of us make in today’s society: Financial stability is the starting point of success and happiness. Coming from a family with such tenacious work ethic, Alyse set her eyes on professional success.

By the time she was 27, she’d checked all the boxes: she spoke three languages, owned an apartment in New York City’s trendy East Village, and had climbed her way to a position as an Executive at Christian Louboutin. She had the job, the money, the success—but, it as happens to so many of us, realized that none of this guaranteed happiness. And for all her achievements, she didn’t feel fulfilled.

This realization sparked a quest of self-discovery, and after reading dozens of books, taking myriad courses and logging in over 500 hours worth of certificates and training, Alyse developed a system that brings the missing piece: fulfillment.

ALYSE

Alyse and Justin (and not to be forgotten, their puppy Delano) created OwnIt specifically for people who are beyond just “checking all the boxes’’ and are sick of running on the hamster wheel to nowhere. The guiding principles ingrained into OwnIt clients help them balance out their own Energy Equation.

The Energy Equation is that perfect equilibrium between your inner and outer energies that the industry forgot to mention to you.

When leveled, the “tangibles” and “intangibles” of productivity work with you rather than against you. We always are so focused on the tangible metrics like HRV, body temperature, and hours of sleep because those are simple adjustments.

Here’s the catch: Those “simple adjustments” definitely work, but only when your outer energy is aligned with your inner energy. By inner energy, we’re talking about your mental state or your stress response, things that you were TOLD were hard to quantify… Until now.

Once you’re taught how to dissect and assess the pieces that make up your inner energy, it will directly feed into your outer energy performance and your success will taste that much better.

Why? Because you didn’t just run through the wall and hurt yourself like most people would, you simply opened the door and walked through it.

Here’s the funny thing about the pursuit for high performance. You’re not just thinking about how to succeed with your job, your health and all the aspects of your life you care about. You’re thinking about how to succeed at succeeding at them.

An obsession becomes a distraction and pulls us away from what we’re actually trying to do: live well. You take all the advice from gurus yet somehow your energy is up and down at all the wrong times (I.e. can’t sleep at night because you’re too wired yet still exhausted trying to crawl out of bed in the morning) and can’t seem to zone in on productivity and quality of life.

Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with putting in a little extra work every now and then to get something done. High achievers don’t need to stop achieving. No one needs to stop setting goals; but subtle shifts to the impetus behind goal setting can make all the difference.

OwnIt’s system helps balance of the inner energy and mindset, and—paired with the customized physical practices for outer energy—become a force multiplier for optimizing mental and physical health.

The OwnIt assessment our clients walk through when
they start working with us is rooted in how these
8 controllables of productivity fall into your life.

Nutrition

And that idea is what separates us from the pack. You don’t come into OwnIt’s world and conform to every single tactic we use on EVERY SINGLE CLIENT like you would with most other coaches.

We know that the best way for you to hit peak
performance is us coming into your world.

We can zero in on your goals internally and externally to engrain them into your lifestyle. Together, you and the OwnIt team co-create an infallible roadmap to achieve your goals—one that guarantees you put in the work and is personalized to you.

We need stress in our lives to build capacity, consistency, and resiliency.

True high performers are not the ones running themselves into the soul-sucking cycle of burnout with chronic stress.

Rather, they have an “energy rhythm” that allows them to balance between periods of overreaching with intermittent bouts of regeneration to stay in the zone of ‘ownership energy.’ Ownership energy is when you’re confident, empowering, flowing, consistent, creative, and positive.

It is that “IT” factor that allows you to be engaged and lead. Imagine if you lived in your ownership energy zone 80% of the time?

But it’s a delicate balance, one that without having some way to measure that rhythm, it becomes the unicorn that many people seek but never actually find. A 2021 Forbes study found that 60% of executive teams suffer from burnout and chronic low energy, which consequently led to only 20% of those teams feeling like they were effectively leading and executing on their potential.

This means that they were leaving money and human equity on the table.

That’s where data plays a crucial role. The good news is that your energy has a number and that number is Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HRV is an overall assessment of exactly how your body is handling the mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional stress you are under as well as its’ impact on energy.

This metric allows us to take action on what matters to consistently unlock our best self — the “Ownership Energy.” Talent will get you noticed, but consistency will get you paid. When you learn how to measure energy, you can manage it to perform consistently and use it to change your life.

We’ve seen it happen time and time again.

To quote Michel de Montaigne, the most influential writers of the French Renaissance,
“Obsession is the wellspring of genius and madness.”

Michel de Montaigne

The Own It systems are equally obsessed with not only chasing your goals, but with recovering so you can keep pushing in a sustainable way.

When that equilibrium between the two is backed by a sturdy foundational mindset, that is what allows you to continue making progress without burnout and fatigue.

Are you ready to take control of your energy? Are you ready to do what’s necessary to unleash your best self on the world? Are you ready to Own It?
